Authentic Italian Lasagna Recipe – A Classic Comfort Food

Ingredients

For the Meat Sauce (Ragù):

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 400g canned tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

For the Béchamel Sauce:

  • 50g butter
  • 50g flour
  • 500ml milk
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • Salt

Other Ingredients:

  • Lasagna sheets
  • 200g mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • 50g Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meat Sauce

Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft.
Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
Then add tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20–25 minutes.

Step 2: Make the Béchamel Sauce

Melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour and whisk for 1–2 minutes. Gradually add milk while whisking.
Cook until thickened, then season with salt and nutmeg.

Step 3: Assemble the Lasagna

  1. Spread a layer of meat sauce
  2. Add lasagna sheets
  3. Spread béchamel sauce
  4. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese

Repeat layers and finish with cheese and Parmesan on top.

Step 4: Bake

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden.
Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
